Patrick "Pat" Brooks was born in St. Paul on the very first day of 1941. He attended Wilson High School in St. Paul for three years and graduated from Washburn High School in Minneapolis in 1959. He then served three years in the Army in Fulda, Germany, where he was a German interpreter and office manager of the regimental medical office.

In 1966 he graduated from the University of Minnesota-Mankato with a degree in business. After graduation he worked for Levi Strauss (Levi's jeans) home office in downtown San Francisco. In 1968 he became a department manager and buyer for Dayton's department store in Minneapolis. In 1971 he became merchandise manager of Black's stores in Fargo, N.D. In 1974 he purchased the Casual Shop in Rochester from Allan Sonnenklar, which he later sold to Ed Haw in 1980. He then started the Ultra Shop chain of shops, which included over the years, Gucci, Fendi, Picasso and the present Ultra Shop in the Downtown Marriott Hotel Subway. His local nickname was "Mister Gucci" which evolved from his years of selling Gucci handbags.

He was active in coaching little league baseball and youth basketball where his step-son, (Cole Butler) became an outstanding basketball player. Cole broke the scoring record at Lourdes High School in 1998 and played college basketball for the University of St. Thomas for four years. The years Cole played for the Tommies were the best four in terms of win/loss in Tommie history up to that time.

Pat was an avid dog lover, pheasant hunter, golfer and world traveler. He was close to his Fogarty uncles and cousins in Belle Plaine.

His step-son, Cole Butler, sadly preceded him in death from an accident at the young age of 25 in 2005. Also preceding him in death were his parents, Sarah Fogarty Brooks and Jay Brooks; and younger brother Colin Brooks.

Survivors include his sisters, Elizabeth (Crooks) of Denver, Colo., and Kathryn (Syzmanski) of Alden, Minn.; brothers, Dr. Marvin Brooks of Edina and Jay Brooks Jr. of Woodbury; and Cole's mother, Gail Butler.

He stated that he lived his life the way he wanted to and had no regrets.

There will be no memorial service, which was his desire. He will be buried at Fort Snelling along with his father, Major Jay Brooks.

Memorials would be appreciated to the Cole Butler Scholarship fund at the University of St. Thomas.

In memory of Pat there will be a get-together in July with the date and time to be determined.
