OBITUARY: Max Eldin Nash passed peacefully with his family at his side on October 7, 2010. He had just celebrated his 88th birthday. Max was born in Eskridge, Kansas on October 6, 1922. He moved to the Del Norte area in 1927 with his parents Glenn W. Nash and Irena Elizabeth (Martin) Nash. Max was the eldest son of nine and often spoke of his siblings and their love of jokes and pranks. His country called him to duty in 1942 where he served in the Pacific Campaign. He received several medals, one of which was the bronze star. Max also authored a book "In God We Trust" reflecting his experience. He was proud to be an American. After WWII Max returned to rural Del Norte where he was a potato farmer, sheep and cattle rancher, and water commissioner for the State of Colorado in the lower Rio Grande District.Max was an active member of the Del Norte Masonic Lodge #105, Pioneer United Church, American Legion #105 and the VFW #8121. In retirement his favorite past times included growing flowers, spending time with his grandchildren, watching the Denver Broncos and traveling.Max is survived by his wife Betty and three children Thomas (Marilyn) Nash of Savoy, Illinois, Kimberlee (Keith) Schuett of Eaton, Colorado and Carl (Jodie) Nash of Statesboro, Georgia, five grandchildren Kendrick, Kiel, Kenton Schuett, Rosemary and Amanda Nash, his sisters Myrtle Henry of Arvada, Colorado, Clare Jean Rasmussen of Grand Junction, brothers Darrel (Blanche) Nash of Bowie, Maryland, Wayne (Sharon) Nash of Del Norte, Colorado and Ralph (Jeanette) Nash of Grand Junction, Colorado.He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Lyle Nash and sisters Doris Wells and Mabel Victoria.A Visitation will be held Sunday, October 10, 2010 from 5-7 p.m. at Rogers Family Mortuary in Monte Vista. A Funeral Service will be held Monday, October 11, 2010 at the Pioneer United Church in Del Norte, Colorado at 3 p.m. Interment will follow services at the Del Norte Cemetery.Arrangements are in care of Rogers Family Mortuary of Monte Vista.
