Bernice Sorensen1924-2009
Funeral service for Bernice Sorensen, 84, Dagmar, was at 2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 27, 2009, at the Nathanael Lutheran Church in Dagmar with Pastor Betty Mawbey officiating.

Christina Kitzenberg read a letter from Bernice's granddaughter Tiffany. Music was provided by Collette Custer. Casketbearers were Donovan Amunrud, Tiffany Tarrant, Kendra Sorensen, Mick Lovegren, Duane Nystedt and Sandra Sorensen. Honorary casketbearers are all of Bernice's friends and relatives. Ushers were Kyle Kitzenberg and Kim Kitzenberg.

Cremation followed the service under the direction of Fulkerson Funeral Home of Sidney. Remembrances and condolences may be shared with the family at www.fulkersons.com.

Bernice was born June 18, 1924, to Oscar and Francis (Crohn) Thorstenson in Dagmar. She attended Hiawatha School. She worked for awhile in St. Paul, Minn., and later returned and graduated from Antelope High School in May 1947.

Bernice was united in marriage to Harry C. Sorensen on June 7, 1947, at the Nathanael Lutheran Church in Dagmar. They purchased the Harris Hendrickson place in the Dagmar area and lived there until they purchased a ranch and moved to Chinook in the fall of 1954 where they farmed and raised cattle. Later, Bernice and Harry were fortunate to be able to escape the Montana winters and spend the winter months in Mesa, Ariz., for more than 25 years. In 1991 they officially retired from the ranch and returned to the area where they were born and purchased a home in Plentywood.

On Aug. 20, 1996, Harry passed away. Bernice remained in her home in Plentywood and continued to spend the winter months in Arizona. For the past five years, Bernice enjoyed living at The Lodge on Lone Tree Creek in Sidney.

Bernice was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Chinook. She belonged to numerous bridge clubs and also the senior citizen centers in Chinook and Plentywood. She enjoyed bowling, playing bridge and pinochle, golfing, gardening and flowers, baking, entertaining friends and relatives, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Bernice passed away peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009, with family at her bedside at the Sidney Health Center Extended Care facility.

Surviving her are two sons, Wayne C. Sorensen, Redmond, Ore., and Russell P. (Sandy) Sorensen, Chinook; two daughters, Dianne (Duane Nystedt) Tarrant, Anchorage, Alaska, and Laurie M. (Mick Lovegren) Amunrud, Crane; a brother, Oscar "Pepper" (Anne) Thorstenson, Oliver, British Columbia; three grandchildren, Tiffany K.F. (Aaron McGrath) Tarrant, Tokyo, Japan, Kendra D. (Josh) Sorensen, San Francisco, Calif., and Donovan K. (Jamie) Amunrud, Burien, Wash.; and two great-grandchildren Mia McGrath and Rhett McGrath, both of Tokyo, Japan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harry; sisters, Ida, Agnes, Myrtle, Gladys and Pearl; brothers, William and Arnold (Bud); and an infant brother.
