Julia was the daughter of Richard J. and Catherine (Brown) O'Connell. She married Christopher J. Shea June 19, 1906 in Minneapolis. They had six children: Harold, Vincent Patrick, Lloyd Anselm, Russell Patrick, Ruth Ann and Mary. They were young when she died of cancer. Ruth Ann was raised by James Henry and Rose (Collins) Murphy.
